Looking back
from where I have a deep sadness grown
I see your face
The warm reminder life has only become
a darkened foe
in the wake of a beautiful and once charmed time we shared.
I caress your smooth skin
in the dark
and feel tears come now in the absence
of your crimson blush.
So far away have I moved.
Your hand released
I comforted myself in the lie
that measure of man's existence goes far beyond horizons
and perhaps such is true at times
But I burn like the setting sun
over a fertile land I will no longer know.
In rebirth, the dawn, the new day, the ground has changed
Summer turns to Fall.
The leaves are brown and breaking.
I wrap my heart around your memory
to keep us warm
though you do not know.
Sitting across this space
divided by time I am both here and long ago
diluted by the clock's unnoticed passing.
Looking across the chasm
trying to change the years in my caged mind
you look a dream running across that bridge.
And I stand there still watching.
I miss you
and while the page has faded
I love you
as much a child knowing so little can.
I fade into the night
waiting to see your brightness shine across the sky
if only just once more.
